This political cartoon, of Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, is on the cover of the latest issue of The New Yorker Magazine. It depicts Obama, as President, in the Oval Office wearing a Muslim-style outfit and doing a fist-bump with his wife, Michelle. She is dressed in camouflage with military-style boots and an automatic rifle slung over her back including plenty of ammo. A photo of Osama bin Laden hangs over the mantel and burning in the fireplace is the American flag. Wow... talking about IMAGES!
This is suppose to be satire but it seems to go way over the top. It is The New Yorker magazine's July 21, 2008 cover titled "The Politics of Fear." And to think The New Yorker magazine is characterized as liberal, not conservative. I have read some of their articles in the past and they have a team of very proficient writers.
Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton called it "tasteless and offensive" and, Jake Tapper at ABC, another high-profile Obama supporter, called it "as offensive a caricature as any magazine could publish."
Artist Barry Blitt defends the cover saying that "It seemed to me that depicting the concept would show it as the fear-mongering ridiculousness that it is."
New Yorker editor David Remnick responds by calling the cover "Satire" targeting not Obama,, but the "absurdity" of the rumors flying about him.~huffingpost
