In October 2006, Halloween Day, 18-year-old Nikki Catsouras was grounded for breaking a house rule. Her parents had taken her car keys away for smoking a cigarette, as the story goes. Not to be denied, Nikki Catsouras made a mistake that would cost her life. She borrowed her father's $150,000 Porsche 911 Carrera, an automobile that goes from zero to 60 mph in 5 seconds. And, this was her first time driving the car.
Catsouras was driving northbound on State Route 241 in California in excess of 100 mph before clipping a Honda that was traveling at 70 mph. The Honda Civic spun out and came to rest. The driver of the Honda Civic suffered minor injuries. However, Catsouras lost control, traveled across all four lanes and the center divider. The Porsche hit a dip causing it to go airborne. The black convertible then crossed all southbound lanes of traffic and came to rest upside down against the toll booth. The impact killed the teenager instantly. She never had a chance. Catsouras lost most of her face and head at the scene.
While her family mourned, photos of the dead girl were posted anonymously on her MySpace page and all across the internet. Police admitted that an officer leaked the pictures. Public distribution of crime scene photos are forbidden by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the State Vehicle Code.
Here is a video clip of 20/20 News Report on the accident and interviews with the family of Nikki Catsouras:
This was a horrific accident. I can't imagine what the family has gone through in the last two years. If you are curious about the photos you can click on the link above. But, you should realize that these photos are gruesome. They might be taken down soon. Once they are taken down, I will NOT provide another link.

She was eighteen not eight and old enough to know better
It says 18 you idiot, and have some compassion. I am sure you are old enough to know not to post a dumb comment like that.
you have some facts wrong in here. it was for smoking a cigarette but for doing cocaine. and the car was $90,000 not $150g's. the myspace page was a fake using her name but wasnt acutally set up by her.
What a beautiful girl and what a tragedy for her family to have lost her and then to have had to deal with the pictures on the internet. Who would send something like that to her father? That should be criminal. I have a 19 year old daughter. Everytime she leaves the house and I hear sirens, my heart stops until I know that she's ok. I cannot imagine their pain. My heart goes out to her family.
I love how all the people who have their shit wrong in these posts are listed as anonymous. It WAS over a cigarette; the amount of cocaine they traced in her system was considered INSIGNIFICANT which means it had nothing to do with the accident. AND the asshole lying bastard in the Honda has beer bottles all over his car, and beer splattered all over himself! The parents claimed she was drunk on the 911 call because they wanted the police to find her, because they wouldn't do shit unless they had a reason to arrest her when they found her. My parents would've said the same thing if it meant finding me. And you know what, 18 isn't old enough! Do even remember being a teenager and how we all think we're invincible at that age?! For Christ's sake, you idiots act like you never did anything wrong or stupid as a teenager! Get a friggen clue and show some compassion!
The father mentions he said goodbye to her that morning...didn't he see her take the porsche keys? Doesn't anyone care about the man she carelessly hit? He's lucky to be alive! Who knows what permanent damage he will have years from now because of her. I don't hear anyone caring about him. Yes, whoever leaked those photos should be fired. Apparently Nikki or her family must have some enemies, I can't imagine an "everyday" person just sending them such horrible photos "just because". Hopefully her father will NEVER have such a vehicle again, he has more children and such a powerful vehicle, shouldn't have keys to it just sitting around especially since she had impulsive tendencies. Shame.
Ms.Catsouras was a beautiful women and God Bless her and The Catsouras Family. People can can so cruel and evil but, one day God is going to put a stop to it. God Bless you all.
whoever sent the pictures to the girls parents should get their ass kicked. i mean, how fucked up do u really have to be to 1. find those pictures funny. and 2. have such disrespect for the girl who lost her life, and her family to actually send them. they must of had to go identify the body anyway, i think thats enough to traumatise just about anybody. people are disgusting. and i would like to say rest in peace, and that she was a beautiful girl.
i send my regards to her family and friends...
and! .. i could care less about the asshole in the honda, he's fine, and if its true that he was drinking, then i dont feel sorry at all.
It doesn't matter how hold she was or whether she should have known better...people make mistakes everyday...i'm sure she wasn't plannin on not livin through this decision....I'm 19 and I've made alot of similar mistakes, I was just lucky that they didn't cost me my life...And those pics of her after the accident should never have been shown!!! My heart goes out to her parents, I don't even want to know how it would affect my family if something like this was to happen to me.
