Thursday, former Governor Rod Blagojevich gave an impassioned speech to the state Senate in Illinois. The speech lasted for approximately 48 minutes [view 4-part speech video below]. Right after his attempt to defend himself the Senate voted unanimously to impeach him. Then the Senate moved to remove him from ever holding office in Illinois, again. With this impeachment, former Gov Rod Blagojevich becomes the 8th governor in U.S. history to be impeached and removed from office. Pat Quinn took the oath of office as the new Governor of Illinois moments after the impeachment of Blagojevich, who was ousted on charges of abuse of power.
Later, Rod Blagojevich spoke to neighbors and reporters outside of his home. He voiced his disappointment over the unanimous Senate vote. You can view a portion of his remarks, from in front of his home, below.
Also, check out State Senate Minority Leader, Christine Radogno's reaction to former Governor Blagojevich's closing argument before the Illinois State Senate on Thursday [see video below].
I have a feeling this is not the last of Blagojevich. His criminal trial is next. The prosecutor has until April 2009 to present his evidence. It should be interesting. I have a feeling there is not enough evidence to convict this guy. But, I really don't know about this case. However, if he is able to remain free and make a living for himself and provide for his family, I predict he will end up in Broadcasting - radio, TV, or internet, or maybe all three.
