Oil Rig worker from Jasper, TX, Michael Sarver, 27, got voted off American Idol 8, tonight, March 26 2009. There were contestants in the bottom 3. They were Matt Giraud, Scott MacIntyre, and Michael Sarver. After McIntyre was quickly announced safe, the other two guys had to sweat it out to the end of the show.
It was no surprise that Sarver did not make it to the next round. His Motown rendition of "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" was not a good pick and his performance was seriously below par. Although I think Megan Joy should have been eliminated before anybody else, there were more votes in her favor. She did a horrible job of "For Once In My Life." I don't even think that is a Motown Song. Last night was "Motown Night."
Anyway, Michael Sarver is headed home, and that leaves 9 contestants. The special performances of the night were one song from AI Season 2 winner, Reuben Studdard, a duet with Josh Stone and the brilliant songwriter and performer Smokey Robinson (from Motown), and a Motown medley by the one-and-only Stevie Wonder. Motown celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year. The founder of Motown, Barry Gordy, was there on Wednesday night. I think he sold the company a few years ago, but he has turned the original HQ in Detroit - "Hitsville" - into a Museum. It's impressive, indeed.
