After a 16-month layoff, some people are doubting if 34-year-old Floyd Mayweather can hold on to his flawless boxing record of 41-0. However, he is the favorite to win tonight's Welterweight Championship bout. His opponent, 24-year-old Victor Ortiz will be defending his title and this is this young fighter's first time in the "Big Time." "Vicious" Victor Ortiz fighting record is 29-2-2, 22KO. Younger and bigger than Mayweather, Ortiz comes off a huge win over Andre Berto that made Ortiz the WBC Champion at 147 pounds. "Money" Mayweather was so impressed with that performance that he hand-picked Ortiz to be his next opponent. Floyd Mayweather, Jr.'s fighting record is 41-0, 25KO. Mayweather weighed in at 146 1/2 pounds.
We'll have to wait for tonight's fight to see if Mayweather lives up to the hype. He definitely looks good. I don't think he will suffer from "ring rust." Mayweather has tremendous defensive skills and is a master at adjusting to his opponents' moves in the ring. A lot of Boxing critics refer to Mayweather as a rare "Pure Fighter or Boxer."
