The Legendary Phoebe Snow Died at 60

The lady with the multi-octive voice, Phoebe Snow, died Tuesday morning, April 26 2011. She had suffered a brain hemorrhage in January 2010.

Phoebe Snow's signature song, 1974 hit "Poetry Man," is one of my favorite songs of all time! She was a true genius at what she did. Ms. Snow knew her craft and performed at the highest level.

Unfortunately, we did not hear from her much after 1975. Her daughter, Valerie, was born with severe brain damage and Ms. Snow put her own career on hold to become her child's primary caretaker. Valerie was not expected to live long. However, due to Ms. Snow's loving care, Valerie lived for 31 years.

Phoebe Snow sustained herself financially doing the years with lucrative "jingles" contracts with major corporations. During her daughter's life and after Valerie's death, Ms. Snow performed occasionally, produced a couple of albums, and even performed at Howard Stern's wedding to Beth Ostrosky in 2008.

RIP Phoebe Snow, you gave so much to so many. . . .

Russell Brand: #1 and #2 Movies At Box Office | Video

Russell Brand, true to his name, is building his "brand" in America. This past weekend his recent movies were #1 and #2 at the Box Office, Hop and Arthur, respectively. I would love to see the Arthur remake. I loved the original version with the late Dudley Moore. Unfortunately, I might have to wait for it to come out on DVD. Anyway... I will get around to seeing it.
Russell Brand's invasion of America is complete: The British comic stars in the top two box office draws of the weekend.

He rules the roost in Dinsey's Hop, about happy bunnies who get even more hopped up on joy. It's the weekend's top earner with $21.7 mil, according to studio estimates. The live-animation combo pic, which cost $63 mil to manufacture, has made $68.2 mil since its April 1 opening.

Brand plays the title role in the No. 2 picture, a mild remake of the 1981 sex comedy Arthur, which opened this weekend with $12.6 mil.~source

Legendary Movie Director Sidney Lumet Died

A man of conscience, Legenday American Movie Director, Sidney Lumet died Saturday morning in his Manhattan home at the age of 86.

He was known for directing film classics and highly acclaimed movies such as 12 Angry Men, Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, The Verdict, Network, Prince of the City, Night Falls on Manhattan, Pawnbroker, and Before the Devil Knows You're Dead. Lumet's stepdaughter, Leslie Gimbel, said Lumet died from lymphoma.

Two of my favorite Lumet Films are: Serpico and Network. But, I really want to get my hands on Pawnbroker and would love to see his last film, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead.

Here is a direct quote from the great Sidney Lumet. May he Rest in Peace:

While the goal of all movies is to entertain, the kind of film in which I believe goes one step further. It compels the spectator to examine one facet or another of his own conscience. It stimulates thought and sets the mental juices flowing. ~Sidney Lumet

Kirstie Alley's Dancing Partner Collapses on DWTS | Video

Last night Kirstie Alley's partner, Professional dancer Maks Chmerkovskiy, collapsed with a "charley horse" on Dancing With The Stars. His thigh gave out and Maks fell to the floor, taking Kirstie with him. However, he 'recovered' and continued the dance routine with his partner. I wonder, what caused this to happen?

President Obama Kicks-Off 2012 Re-election Campaign

This comes as no surprise... President Barack Obama formally launched his re-election campaign Monday morning, April 4, 2011. Obama gets a head start on his potential Republican challengers. Traditionally it's difficult for any candidate to unseat an incumbent politician, but it's early... we'll see. According to the latest information, Obama's campaign is not taking anything for granted, predicting that it could cost around one billion dollars to return to the White House as a 2-term President.

46th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards: Rihanna & Jennifer Duet

Well... RiRi has gone Country... at least for one night. There were some serious "crossover duets" last night at the 46th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards. My two favorites were "Rihanna & Sugarland's Jennifer" and "Steven Tyler & Carrie Underwood." Check out video replays below.

Rihanna and Jennifer Nettles hook up in "California King Bed" during the live ceremony of the 46th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards on April 3. RiRi sported a white dress and a flaming orange pixie haircut, while the Sugarland female singer donned a black and purple tube outfit.

"She is a wonderful performer," Jennifer praised RiRi after their live duet. She added, "Obviously, country music is hip and it's cool and it's fresh, and I think her being here tonight is even more testimony to that."~source
